There is not a lot of personal info about me out there, just the inks for the most part. I am still digesting the evolution of my practice and career. Everything has been so fast, surreal and amazing that I am trying to keep my head straight and my feet on the ground.

Tattooing feels closer to drawing and the essence of draftsmanship. And I have always admired the old engravings and woodcuts of Albert Durer, Francisco Goya, Gustav Dore, Franz Von Bayros… etc. Their line quality and and craftsmanship are so remarkably exquisite.

The best thing of being a traveling artist is working alongside so many talented artists. I have been lucky enough that people have found me through social media and invite me to their shop. And that is a great honor for me, to be received with welcoming arms to their beloved space. I am so thankful to have that exchange of energy and ink. That is the best thing about traveling and tattooing; trading and collecting permanent memories from some of the awesomest souls I have met.

I have so much more to learn, explore and experiment. There is so much that only years of experience can teach you.

She usually works in Granada, but she collaborates with other Tattoo Studios from Madrid and Barcelona in Spain and foreign countries as Equilattera (Miami, USA) and InkLabs (Dresden, Germany). At present, she is working the construction of her own study (958 Tattoo Shop) which will be opened in November 2017 in Granada. Some of the best works are related with art as pieces of Venus (Botticelli), The Kiss (Gustav Klimt) or La Gioconda (Leonardo Da Vinci), among others. Moreover, she has created a lot of geeky tattoos, related with famous films and sci-fi creations, but the most estrange one was her own face eating a Kinder stick.

From here the encounter with tattoos was inevitable.
I started tattooing few friends in my own apartment until I decided to leave my previous job so I could focus 100% on tattoos.
I just wanted to draw for a living.
I’ve always wanted to draw, and seeing my work on people’s skin became more and more fascinating.
My inspiration comes from different artist like Escher, Moebius, Fornasetti, Sergio Toppi.
The thing that I like the most about this job is that you always have the chance to grow.
I like to partner up with different tattoos professional so I can travel around the world, but for the better part of the year Lodo tattoos in Milan is my base, that’s where it all started.

I live in Lisbon, but I was born in Setúbal, a seaside city 45 minutes away to the south of Lisbon. I’ve been tattooing since October 2013. At the time I was married to a tattoo artist so I was already familiar with the world of tattooing for about 5 years. It started very unintentionally. I just tried it once for fun and enjoyed it so much that I never stopped again. At the time I was just fresh out of uni and was trying to get a job or an internship in my area of studies. I studied Painting for 3 years in the Fine Arts University of Lisbon and then studied Animation for 3 more years. I started doing this kind of line work right away, just because I wanted to perfect lines before I moved to shading, but ended up realizing that what I was doing worked on its own and I didn’t feel the need to add any shading. Since then I’ve lived the best years of my life, and also the most challenging ones. Doing what I love, meeting amazing people along the way and traveling often, it all makes me feel so lucky and the amount of love I get from the people who follow my work is humbling and touching.

Graduated from one of the top high schools in my country and went straight to the university, because that’s what you’ve got to do to get a decent job. I didn’t have a desire to be a tattoo artist, I just wanted to be an architect like my dad, but my mom insisted that I should study economics so that’s what I did. I dropped out my senior year, went to Istanbul and started working in a courier delivery services company as a consultant. After 3 months, I got fired which I still don’t know why.

After this, things started to develop; my tattoo artist asked me if I wanted a job and said that I could work at his parlour until I find a job. My family didn’t want me to work in a tattoo parlour because they worked so hard for my education. The moment that changed my entire life was when I said yes to my tattoo artist, that I’d be his apprentice and do whatever I have to do to become a tattoo artist. To date, this is the greatest risk I took in my life because I didn’t know if I was going to succeed in this path. After I did my first tattoo, I realized that this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I feel like I’m being myself, complete when doing tattoos because all of my tattoos are my designs inspired by the people that will carry them for the rest of their lives.

I never regret this decision I took 4 years ago. As a tattoo artist, I’ve met thousands of different people, heard their stories, became a part of their life and family, listened to their experiences and learnt from their mistakes and also had an opportunity to move to New York as well; which is a lifelong dream for me.

I started tattooing in February 2014. Starting with a Chinese kit on my leg from a YouTube tutorial.. after awhile i decided to leave my old work as accountant because I was believing in this new job.. all my family and friends were against me cause I did not even never draw before. I just had tattoo passion, so I spent few months practicing drawing, also for more than 18 hours a day.. trying to picture everything.
I decided to create a small “sketchbook” to show my art in some studios, in order to get an internship. One accepted and I started there. After a year I start to tattoo by myself, at home, making my stuff (geometric). Just after 4 hard months customers started to write me for work.
I started working as a guest in many studios, with even more than 10 studios in a month…crazy and all the time in rush.
I am very grateful to all my clients… it’s an honor doing this job.

On 2014 he decided to move to Madrid, started working on his own and developing his personal style. He begins to focus on black tattoo art, illustrative works, geometric and fine lines, as well as dot work.
The accuracy and the attention to the little details are what define his style. His works are usually very delicate and clean, mainly based on illustrative style, representing natural elements, art, objects, symmetries and geometries with some surrealistic touch.
Since 2017 he’s a resident tattoo artist at Alchemist’s Valley, a brand new tattoo studio in the heart on Madrid, specialized in black tattoo art.

I really love to talk with my colleagues about how they works , what they thinks , what they uses… I love graphic stuff…I think that the sketch style is fun to do! Every time you can change or add something…there are no rules! In my opinion the key is the simplicity. My drawings are really simple: a few lines, but placed in the right spots, and the same is for the color!

Hello! My real name is Mattia and I am 26. I was born near Milan, where I am living and working. I studied art at high school where I met many people who later became colleagues and customers and have been very important for my current job. After school I worked a few years in a restaurant. Cooking is my passion, and in this last period I’m working to merge it with Tattoo trying to bring the theme of the food on the skin. I started tattooing Japanese themes and old school who remain my favorite styles yet. These have helped me to create my “destrutturato” style. The simplicity of the tattoo old school, and the bright and flat colors of Japanese Tattoo. What I try to do with the destrutturato style is the simplicity of a few lines and color that completes it, creating a strong image and impact. As an sticker.
This destrutturato style is new for me. What I would do in the future is take the time to draw things that are not only related to the Tattoo. I like to design skateboards and clothings. I hope to turn what I have in mind in a real style. Something that has a very precise concept. What I always say is that often less is more!

In 2011 i got into my first contact with tattooing and tattoo arts. Nevertheless i have always been an artist but in this moment, I realized that this was a profession I absolutely wanna go for. I spent two years in a tattoo studio in Berlin learning all the tricks and how to create tattoos. After this time everything went very fast: i travelled a lot, either to conventions or as a guest artist. I visited several spots in Germany, Iceland, Norway or Switzerland. Through a work period in a big tattoo shop I had the chance for a technical exchange with experienced tattoo colleagues and could improve further. My love for animals and diving into a surrealistic world are characterizing my work. In styles i am not determined or specified, I am curious and open to always add a special touch or a new impact to my work. Then finally in 2017 i opened an own space, shared with my colleague Cory Capelli: on the outskirts of Berlin “Atelier Mori Capelli” has been born. I can say ever since I found this profession i feel like the luckiest human being on earth. You think it – I ink it!

This is not in any order in particular, just 50 geometric tattoos of the last two months that we love.

These photos also include tattoos that incorporate geometric shapes in the design.

Geometric tattoos come in hundreds of styles – be they inspired by nature, abstract or just incorporate geometric elements in the design, it’s their unique look that draws attention and a rather large following. Geometric tattoos also have symbolic significance, an it’s not about just putting random geometric elements together, it’s about symmetry working together with the design creating a meaningful piece of art.

Below are the latest geometric tattoos we like.

DC Comics tattoos

After a ‘Marvel Universe tattoos’ article, it was only fair to put up a list of the coolest DC Comics tattoos.

DC Comics has been around since 1934 and it’s one of the largest and oldest American comic book companies. DC produces material featuring a lot of well-known characters including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, The Flash, Aquaman, Black Canary, Hawkman, Supergirl, Hawkgirl, Green Arrow and many more. Most of their material takes place in the fictional DC Universe, which features teams such as the Justice League, the Justice Society of America, the Suicide Squad, and the Teen Titans.

DC Comics also has well-known villains: the Joker, Lex Luthor, The Cheetah, Darkseid, Catwoman, Ra’s al Ghul, Deathstroke, Reverse-Flash, Sinestro, Black Adam, and Brainiac.

Tattoo by Russell Van Schaick

They also published material that does not take place in the DC Universe like V for Vendetta or the Watchmen.

Women and tattoos – part II

At the beginning of the 20th century few women learned how to tattoo, usually from their husbands. They mostly taught their wives this craft in order to extend their business and gain more customers. Some wives colored the outline their husbands made, while others tattooed directly from the ‘sample book’ from where the client chose their favorite design.

Maud Stevens worked at a circus and met her husband when she agreed to go out with him if he taught her how to tattoo. Maud started what later became a family tradition: “manual” tattooing (aka hand poking). Although she practiced this more like a hobby, Maud would be the first woman tattooer recognized in the recent history. Her daughter, Lotteva also started tattooing at the age of 9. Her last tattoo, at the age of 83, was a rose on Ed Hardy’s skin.

Irene “Bobbie” Libarry was first tattooed by her husband in 1918. In 1930 she learnt to tattoo and even opened her own shop on Market street in San Francisco. She declared for Ms. Magazine in 1971 that she got tattooed “because she realized it would be something of the future”.

Mildred Hull, as opposed to many of the first women who started tattooing in collaboration with their husbands, took this road by herself in 1920, self proclaimed as the “only lady tattooer”. She was both respected and ridiculed for her success in a 25 year career. She declared for Foto Magazine that men will always be jealous if a woman will do just as good as them at a job, and that some of them would actually cut on their prices just so she could lose business. However she had just as many clients (14-15 a day) regardless, because some men prefer to be tattooed by a woman, considering that a woman is more careful. Her shop was behind a barbershop on Bowery street in New York, where for 25 cents you would get a haircut and a shave, a shower or a small tattoo. Her success in one of the roughest neighborhoods in New York city was not only owed to her artistic talents but also because of her street smarts.

Mildred Hull’s British contemporary, Jessie Knight, started tattooing in 1921 when she was just 17. born in Bristol, she learned this art from her sailor father. She pursued tattooing on her own when her father left on a ship to work as a chef. Jessie was, and remained for a long time, the only British female tattoo artist having multiple tattoo shops. In 1955, Jessie won second place at the “Champion Tattoo Artist of All England” competition for a depiction of a highland fling on a sailor’s back.

Nell Bowen. Remarkable among the first female tattooers not just because she managed on her own in a man owned profession, but also because she monopolized the tattoo scene in San Diego during and after the Second World War. She was known as “Painless Nell” and she ran five tattoo parlors, working with her husband and sister. Her style was classic and traditional with bold lines and even bolder fills. Zeke Owen, her direct rival stated that Nell represents “the dawn of the old school tattoo”. Her last shop, located in Point Loma, which was opened in 1947, was bought by Zeke Owen in 1970 and became “Ace Tattoo”.

Spotlight: Snake Tattoos

Featured image by Mirkosata.

Snakes as a motif in tattooing have been around for a long long time.
While some trends may die, the majority of them get re-imagined, upgraded and become very trendy again. This may be the case of the snake tattoo.

An advantage of these designs is that it can be placed anywhere and can be drawn to accentuate your features and look as it was in motion.

Whether you are going for a traditional design, Asian influences or a more modern or minimalist design,
these beautiful beings seem to be around more often lately in the tattooing world.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BVpV_W9l8Pv
The meaning of the snake varies between cultures and religions and it can mean a number of things from The Divine, to  Temptation and Seduction or even Vindictiveness. Or maybe it can be just a tribute to these absolutely beautiful beings and maybe even a tribute to your pet snake.
Below you have some very cool snake tattoos to get you inspired.

Felipe Kross hails from the Brazilian capital city of São Paulo. He was born in 1992. Coming from a family of artists, Felipe has had contact with the arts since childhood, when he grew up drawing his favorite fictional characters.

In high school Felipe began to have even greater contact with Literature and History, and began to elaborate and create ever more imaginative drawings. He worked for almost 3 years in technology as a trainee and professional designer using AutoCAD, but he decided to change career directions at the end of 2011, after he started tattooing in his spare time. After a long apprenticeship with master tattooer Paco Anes at his studio in 2013, Felipe decided to quit Design school and dedicate himself full time to tattooing.

Felipe began to develop his personal style by harmonizing both the ideas of his clients’ tattoos with his own particular style and background. At the beginning of 2016, together with Vinicius Lacerda tattooer, he founded “The New Black Studio”, located in Vila Madalena, São Paulo’s most artistic and bohemian neighborhood. The studio is dedicated entirely to black and gray tattoos, just as Felipe himself is dedicated to that line of work.

My name is Pony Wave, I was born and raised in Russia, that is where I started my tattoo career path. Now I live in Los Angeles and try to travel as much as I can.
At the beginning my style was close to colorful realism and new school, I was using a lot of colors, but now more and more I fall in love with black work, minimalism and geometry. It gets me that in brevity you transfer so much. I am still looking for my own style, that is why I do experiment and mix styles.
To my opinion, minimalism and geometry are some levels of art development between worlds. This is kind of embodiment of energetic and informative component of the world. Broadcasting is taking a big part in my work and outlook.
I go through my sketches very thoughtfully and thoroughly, I personalize and fulfill each work.

First set of tattoo machines I’ve bought back in 2011. I was little bit rebellious person against the world. All my friends began study like me. They all had big dreams but slowly they were forgetting them.
They have realized that life is not as colorful as they were thinking before. I never wanted to live like this and my dream was to have a job I’m interested with. This is why i’ve decided to stop studying and I’ve bought my tattoo machines.
I,ve started working on silicone skin first and after a while some of my brave friends gave me their skin to work with. After 6 months I was given a job in my first tattoo shop.
Somebody told me that i should use needles in the same way like paint brushes, i’m glad that he told me this, cause i’ve started to experimenting with needles.
I think my drawing were kinda chaotic but I’ve decided to use them as a base for tattoo designs. This is how I’ve created my style.
In general I work at OŚDZ in Łódź. Also I do guest spots around the world.
I do my best to get more work experience. I’d love to finish my study as well and obviously carrying on with my passion to ru marathons and using every single bit of world surrounding me as a valuable inspiration.
I always wanted to live with an art and I feel like tattooing chose me.
Back in time if anyone told me this is how I’ll be living, I would burst with laugh but now I am the happiest person in whole universe.

I began studying tattoo artistry and have successfully graduated with a degree. At first I thought it was a hobby, then as time professed it became my passion in life I am happy it is not only my profession, but it has also allowed me to express my creativity as well as travel around the world to share my talent to make a difference in others. I aspire to ensure that everyone leaves my chair with a clean, precise, and vivid illustration that will impact there for a life time. My ultimate goal is to not only combine unique graphics, but also blend pastel colors into a work of art.

I was born in Bursa-Turkey in 1984. I graduated from the art teacher and graphic design faculty. My all family members are art teachers including my mom, dad and sister too. They were expecting me to be a teacher but i was against them. Then i left my hometown and moved to Istanbul in 2008.

I have worked as an art director at some advertisement agencies for 7 years.
At the beginning i was really happy with my job but after some fights for a silly brochure i’ve lost my faith on my job. Also being locked in an office like a cyber world with computers started to make me hatred and now i glad to have that feeling.

Cause in 2011 i’ve met with Denizhan Ozkar. He is a great tattoo artist and he taught me how tattooing. my first tattoo was drawn on a banana.
i was really excited and nervous while i was tattooing a real body for the first time.
i really realized how hard it was.

In January 2013 i quit my job and i started to tattoo as a hobby. but now it’s my job.
now i am working at my home office studio and living with my 2 dogs. i only draw my own designs. i never do the same tattoo again. unfortunately sometimes i saw my same drawings on the internet and some tattoo artists says that these are their own designs and tattooing exactly the same copy. this is really making me sad cause i believe that all of us should be unique.

As i am graduated from graphics designs, my drawings are became more graphical, minimal and geometric and people loved it.
People from Spain, Austria, Canada, Germany, Switzerland, France, Holland, Costa Rica and Australia came for my tattoos and more of them are asking me to tattoo them. I want to thank them all, they are making me happy.
I am sure that many years ago if i told my family to be a tattoo artist, they would be against me. But now they support me and showing my drawings to their friends.
I think being a tattoo artist was my best decision so far. I really love my job.
People leaving my studio happily. They are sending me thank you messages and inviting me.
I have really good memories like poetic e-mails, very long mails like a novel and etc. it’s really funny to read them.
My future plan is to travel more, to meet with new people and continue my career at a foreign country.
